The New Orleans Pelicans teamed up with Chevron to host STEM Fest at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Approximately 2,000 students engaged in hands-on learning and interactive demonstrations focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The event featured robotics, video game coding, virtual reality, live performances, and Saints and Pelicans activities.
A highlight of this year’s STEM Fest was a college signing event for six local high school seniors. Similar to top high school athletes committing to a college on National Signing Day, the STEM Signing Day honorees were celebrated as they signed a letter of intent to pursue a STEM degree at their chosen college or technical program.
“The New Orleans Pelicans were thrilled to partner with Chevron to host STEM Fest again in 2023,” Gayle Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints and Governor of the New Orleans Pelicans said. “It brings me joy to see this young generation of students display so much passion for learning, as well as show enthusiasm for our sports teams.”
In collaboration with the nonprofit organization Project Lead The Way, Chevron has been the presenting sponsor of STEM Fest since 2017.
“As a former teacher, I know that experiential learning is the best way to engage students and get them excited about their studies,” said Leah Brown, Public Affairs Manager for Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico Business Unit. “STEM Fest connects young minds’ love of sports to STEM, fosters their passion for learning, and lays the foundation for their future success. Chevron is proud to be a part of this fun, innovative event and thanks Project Lead The Way, the Pelicans and Saints for their partnership.”
