Statement Regarding Coastal Lawsuit Opinion by U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit
NEW ORLEANS – (August 5, 2021) – Following is a statement from Marc Ehrhardt, executive director of the Grow Louisiana Coalition, regarding an opinion issued today by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in the ongoing lawsuits against Louisiana’s oil and natural gas industry:
“As trial lawyers have sought out paydays and public legal battles against oil and gas companies across South Louisiana, the industry has been hard at work restoring and protecting Louisiana’s coast. While these lawsuits have produced nothing but headlines and legal fees over the last seven years, the energy sector has provided more than $230 million towards state-led coastal restoration initiatives. That’s in addition to millions donated by individual companies that are working with non-profit organizations every day to sponsor critical projects that fortify our coastal communities and wildlife habitats.
Regardless of where these cases end up, we will continue working to build a brighter future for our businesses, our coast and our people. Lawsuits not included.”
